Druk Path Trek. 7 Nights/ 8 Days

One of most beautiful and versatile treks in Bhutan, this route has wonderful mountain views and the advantage of being accessible from Thimphu and Paro. The trek passes by lakes famous for rainbow trout ,forest’s, rhododendron shrubs etc. Presenting enchanting views of the Himalayan ranges.

Bangkok- Paro (altitude: 2150m)

Day 01 (Paro-Thimphu altitute: 2250m)

Your received by our representative, then drive to Thimphu(one and half hours/65kms) via Chhuzom(confluence of the Paro and Thimphu rivers). Arriving at Thimphu check- in at your Hotel. In the afternoon visit the Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in the memory of our late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Then drive to Changangkha lhakhang, The monastery offers a great view of the Thimphu valley, then you will visit the textile Museum (gallery of Bhutanese Textiles, Arts and Crafts). Explore Thimphu Town.

Day 02 (Thimphu-Phajoding altitude: 3700m)

Drive to the Radio Tower just above the town. Your hike starts from the tower climbing uphill till you reach Chokortshe Monastry. Then the trial is almost plain till you met another trial, which comes from Motithang. Now your trial leads uphill again through the forest till you reach Phajoding. Today the hike takes up three hours covering 5kms. After reaching Phajoding ,visit the monastery. The name Phajoding originated from the name of the saint Phajo Drugom Shigpo, who meditated here in the 13th century.

Day 03 (Phajoding- Simtota Tsho(lake) altitude:4040mts)

The trail today starts with climbing uphill for an hour from the camp crossing Thugjedra (4100mts) and then the route slowly descends. The trail takes you through the dwarf Rhododendron trees passing through mountains finally stopping at the Simkota lake. The hike takes three to four hours covering a distance of 10kms.

Day 04 (Simkota Tsho-Jimilang Tsho altitude: 3880mts)

This hike today takes 11kms taking about four hours. The day begins passing through the mountains and coming across few lakes. The route still follows through the dwarf Rhododendron patches finally arriving at Jimilang Tsho(The Sand Ox Lake). These lakes are known for their giant sized trout.

Day 05 Jimilang Tsho- Jili Dzong altitude: 3490mts)

The trial follows the ridges towards the west and on a clear day, there is a magnificent view of the Eastern Himalayas . This hike covers the distance of 19kms in seven to eight hours. The route by passes many mountains gradually reaching to the Jili Dzong

Day 06 (Jili Dzong- Paro Ta Dzong altitude: 2510mts)

Hike all the way down slope through the blue pine trees till you reach Ta Dzong(National Museum). This is the Pick up rendezvous. Check-in at the Hotel in Paro. Explore theParo town in the evening.

Day 07 (Paro sightseeing)

Visit the Drukgyal Dzong(fortress of the victorious Drukpa), a ruined fortress 16kms away from Paro town. It was built in 1647on a rocky spur that blocks the Paro valley from the north. Shabdrung Nawang Namgyal built this majestic fortress to commemorate the victory over the combined Tibetan and Mongolian armies. It is from here that the Mount Jhomolhari(mountain of goddess) altitude 7,314mts can be viewed on a clear day. On the way back visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, built in 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo,. Later a new Lhakhang was built in 1968 by the Queen mother of Bhutan.

After lunch drive to Ta Dzong (National Museum). Strategically located in the past it served as the watchtower of the Paro Dzong. Then drive down the slope for few minutes to visit Paro Dzong known as Rinpung Dzong meaning ‘the fortress of the heap of jewels’ built in 1646 and it is the centre of the district administration and the monk body.Visit a Farm House in the afternoon.
